OffShoot alternative: Olycen vs OffShoot, ShotPut Pro and Silverstack (2026)

July 30, 2026

OffShoot is a superb offload tool. So why do so many DITs and camera assistants search for an alternative? Usually one reason: price. When Hedge became OffShoot in 2024, the license moved to $169, with a $249 “Pro” tier for features many productions actually need — including ASC MHL.

This is an honest look at where Olycen fits next to OffShoot, ShotPut Pro and Silverstack — and where each of them is still the better pick. Nobody’s only copy is worth a page that shades the truth.

Price and packaging

The real difference isn’t the headline number, it’s what sits behind it. OffShoot keeps ASC MHL behind the $249 Pro tier. Silverstack is a yearly subscription ($399, or $599 for XT). Olycen is $129 once, two Macs, no subscription — with MHL, multiple checksums and reports in the one price. See the full pricing.

Verification is the whole point

Every serious offload tool verifies by reading the copy back off the disk, not by trusting that the write returned OK. Olycen’s difference is how loudly it says so: it shows two numbers, never onecopied and verified — and only offers to format the card once every file is verified on at least two physical drives. A half-finished job can’t wear the look of a finished one. How Olycen verifies.

Where the others win

  • OffShoot — if you want the fastest, simplest, most battle-tested pure offload and nothing else, it earned its reputation.
  • Silverstack — a full DIT station: grading, LUT, dailies, a media library. If you run a high-end cart, it’s in a different category and worth the subscription.
  • ShotPut Pro — a long-standing, straightforward offloader a lot of people already trust.

Where Olycen fits

One-time price under OffShoot, ASC MHL and reports included instead of gated, and a verification model built so the card is only ever declared safe to erase when the proof is in. If that’s the trade you want, join the beta and run Olycen next to your current tool on a real card — if they ever disagree, that’s the most useful thing you can send us.

Offload that never lies to you.

Olycen copies every card to as many drives as you want, verifies each file by reading it back, and only says the word verified once the proof is in. One-time $129, two Macs, no subscription — the launch list pays $99.
